Behind the Camera

Meet John, Photographer, Memory Foundry Curator
I am John, a sociable, mild-mannered guy living on Eastern Long Island. By day I work as a computer software engineer, but you will find me spending my free time delving deeper into my favorite hobby and working to advance my skills as a photographer. I find this interest a bit odd because I have never considered myself artistically inclined, so this passion for photography seems somewhat misplaced in me. Nevertheless, I continue to push myself forward, learning the various combination of techniques, equipment and camera settings necessary to produce optimal results.

I grew up in a quaint, costal town on the shore of the Long Island Sound. I have an undergraduate degree in biology and have always been fascinated with life — or more specifically, how living things work, behave, and fit within the larger ecosystems to which they belong. I also have a masters degree in government and public policy, so I tend to pay attention to the salient political issues of the day.

Dogs have always held a special place in my heart. Until recently, I had the best (I know, every pet owner claims their pet is the best) and most-intelligent Yellow Labrador Retriever named Ajax. Sadly he passed away a short time ago at the age of 14, leaving me heartbroken.

So that’s me in a nutshell. My life is not much different than anyone else’s, I suppose. Moreover, you probably didn’t come here to get to know me personally, so go ahead and enjoy the rest of the website. If you’re interested, you can read my thoughts on photography.

I continue to push myself forward, learning the various combination of techniques, equipment and camera settings necessary to produce optimal results.
