The 100 Strangers project is a world-wide learning endeavor that I joined with the hope of further developing my social skills (by interacting with potential portrait subjects whom I meet by chance in my everyday life) and the technical skills necessary for taking portraits of strangers and telling their stories. The project method is to learn by doing. The challenge is to take at least 100 photographs of 100 people whom I don’t know.
The idea is simple: Approach anyone or a group of people, ask for permission to both take a photo of them and to post it to the 100 Strangers Flickr Group. During the challenge, I will likely have to step out of my comfort zone to learn a little bit about these strangers so that I may caption each photo with a short bit about who they are. Participating in this project will be quite enjoyable and should definitely improve my photojournalistic skills. During the process I expect to gain a new appreciation for those around me and enrich my everyday experience . Who knows, I may even gain a few new friends along the way.
